High Efficiency Dialysis

Awesome vs Conventional Urea Reduction Ratio (URR)

Y axis: URR (%); X axis: treatment time (hours)

Awesome’s dialysis methodology enhances the efficiency of toxin removal threefold in comparison to traditional dialysis methods.

Greater clearance of uremic toxins, or Urea Reduction Ratio (URR), in a shorter time means shorter treatments. What conventional dialysis systems can achieve in 4 hours can be accomplished within 1 with our system. In 2 hours, nearly all toxin molecules will be removed from the patient’s bloodstream, a feat that is traditionally unthinkable.

Awesome vs Conventional Blood Flow Rate

Y axis: blood flow rate (mL/min); X axis: method

In conventional dialysis, increasing blood flow rate or using two dialyzer filters can improve clearance performance. However, these modifications will increase extracorporeal blood volume, which can break hemodynamic stability and pose exceptional risks for fatal outcomes. The cost of increasing Kt/V using traditional methods is too high.

Awesome’s dialysis system dialyzes more slowly, yet more efficiently. Our methods are safer because the less and more slowly blood flows out, the better it is for the patient’s heart and hemodynamic stability.

Conventional blood flow rate ≥ 400 mL/min adds stress to the patient’s cardiovascular system. According to the United States Renal Data System (USRDS), sudden cardiac death is the leading cause of death amongst all End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients. However, our flow rate is 200 mL/min, a precursor for less intradialytic hypotension, fatigue, and cramping and better long-term cardiovascular outcomes.

In addition, USRDS approximates 24% of all ESRD patients choose to discontinue maintenance treatment prior to death. Half the treatment time can ease psychological burden and lower voluntary discontinuation by restoring quality of life.
